Local W-S Japanese Steakhouse on CNN (not in a good manner)

This caught my eye on CNN. Apparently, this lady and her two co-workers were charged 18% gratuity. Anyone been here?

  1. Actually, I think it reflects poorly upon the woman. She went there frequently but never tipped (or always tipped poorly)? That's just not right.

I agree. A local Winston-Salem station broke the story and it does reflect poorly on the customer in question in my opinion. A classic non-tipper gets exposed and tries to place the blame on the business. I smell a setup. It must have been a slow news day for CNN to carry this drivel.

Well I'm going by the story and the story seemed to be from the woman's point of view moreso than the restaurant. I understand that tipping poorly is rude (unless the meal and service were just not adequate).. Well actually the food has nothing to do with the server or shouldn't.

I'll say this much from the piece.. when they were questioning the owner.. he sure did swallow hard after that first statement. While I'm sure what the best remedy is for this I'm not sure if charging everyone in her party the extra gratuity was correct either. Maybe restaurants should start having a poor tippers wall of shame.

      2. We're going to lock this, since there is already a thread on the Not About Food board (where tipping threads go). If you'd like to contribute to that discussion, you can find that thread here:
