Boston Trip Report
spent five days in Boston. Most of the eats below were recommendations from chowhounders!
Neptune Oyster: Oysters and Sea Urchin. Small little bar with pristine oysters. Place was packed and I was lucky to squeeze into a seat. I tried the recommended Prosecco but preferred my standard Muscadet. The Sea Urchin was fresh and I had never tried it before. The taste was of a sweet cool butter. And that is a good thing. Wasn't a fan of the mignonette- didn't taste like anything I should be eating with oysters. Pricey but worth it for a splurge.
Gallaria Umberto: Arancini- lovely little rice balls coated with bread crumbs and fried. This version is stuffed with a meat mixture. I don't think we have this version in D.C. but I wish we did. I'd eat them everyday for lunch. As warned the line was long but worth it. The pizza was cheap and burnt in all the right places. Kinda like an ugly girl you can't help but find looking so fiiiine. Delicious.
Mike's Pastry: So good I had to come back twice. The Cannoli with chocolate chips were just perfect. Not too sweet, had a great crunch and the place seemed to be open all the time.
Lobster tail was a bit much though. It was as big as a pizza slice and needs to be shared by four people.
Cafe Brazil: My one day I had a little money to spend and some time for myself after business was finished and I chose the Churrasco Tubua. Big Mistake. This sucked. It was your standard fajita dish with black beans and rice. Yes, the chicken was impossibly juicy. But the steak was not good and everything else was just average.
Le's Restaurant (Harvard Square): Good standard pho. First time I had joint in my pho but in small quantities it was really good. What stood out at this place was the female owner. What a nice and gracious host. It was late at night and even though the kitchen was closed she was handing out food to people she had to turn away. Spring rolls and things like that. She gave me a few on the house as I drank my beer. The pho broth was good and hit the spot on a freezing cold night.
There were many other places my work schedule didn't let me get too. Next time I'm hitting Hungry Mother, Taiwan Cafe, Artu, Blunch and Clam Box!
