Has anyone tried one of the Organic Produce Buying Clubs in Miami? Which one to choose?
We have been in search of affordable, fresh, organic produce in Miami, Florida and have found a couple of options for organic coops/ buying clubs (where you can buy a weekly or biweekly share, and get about 25-35 pounds of a mixed bag of organic fruits and veggies for around $35- $50 either on a weekly or biweekly basis) but don't personally know anyone who has tried them. Before we commit , we are hoping to get some feedback and recommendations from folks who are in the know. Shopping at farmer's markets, grocery stores and Whole Foods for organics is breaking the bank!
Here are the two buying clubs we came across, please share your experience, recommendations, advice...
Is it a good value for the price?
Do you like the variety and quality of the produce?
Is the biweekly full share quantity about right for 2 people who cook 6 days a week?
Are they at all flexible, if let's say....we hate peas, and would rather not have them in our share?
I have tried both. Based on quantity for the money, quality of food and variety of items, organic buying club. If you need flexibility and cannot make full commitment to shares, then you may want to consider Annies club. You will have enough for 2 people for 6 days a week with each share for sure. I personally went back to alternating farmer's markets and whole foods just because I like choosing what I buy and with a toddler cannot always keep my commitments to pick up every share, but I love the buying clubs, it is a great thing to do! Good luck!
