Anyone been to G'vanni's recently? You can get 50% off from Buywithme. Any dishes you recommend? Giacomos is probably still cheaper without the coupon.

  1. I can't vouch for the North End loc, but the Billerica one had FABULOUS pumpkin ravioli with burnt butter sage sauce, and I see that the North End has that on their menu as well. Amaaaazing.

    1. Unless things have changed in the past few years, I would pass on the NE G'Vanni's. I think they are 1 of the poorer options in the NE. I swore them off after lunch for 2 w/wine for $30 or something. They've had these 1/2 off coupons for as long as I remember.

Maybe they've improved but I'll personally wait to hear a few positive reports before I return

      1. Is that the place that offers you a limo ride with a lap dance, or something?

        1. I actually had a wonderful experience there over the summer. A friend and I enjoyed dinner however we did not do the two-for-one deal. She got the butternut squash ravioli with marscapone cream sauce and we were literally licking the bottom of the plate. I got the scallops over spinach and they were truly excellent. Also, the bread the serve is warm and some of the best I have had in N. End. The only con is it is a very small space. Give it a try!

          1. I've managed to avoid G'Vanni's for all the wrong reasons from a Chowhound perspective: I don't like the name, I don't wait in lines, and the menu looks like lame, dull red-sauce Italian-American, much of which is served at literally 50 other North End places. It screams "tourist trap" to me. Apps like bacon-wrapped scallops, crabcakes, spicy chicken wings, chicken fingers, and gorgonzola fries don't seem very Italian to me. But for all I really know, it might be worthwhile.

I do know anecdotally that they take reservations but don't honor them scrupulously (a bit like Antico Forno); you are just as likely to wait 30-60 minutes for your table with a reservation as without one. Entrees and pastas run $18-25, probably significantly more for specials: I know of some pretty amazing places to eat at those prices. Please report if you end up going; I don't think I've ever seen a review of it on this board.

Based on the review of Billerica, maybe they've improved.

Nseneda, they used to offfer a limo ride home; don't know about the lap dance..:)

Amazing anecdote in the post about the Billerica outlet of G'Vanni's! As every customer sits enduring a ridiculous wait for their orders to arrive, the manager sits down at a table in the dining room at 8pm and eats, shouting at the staff not to be disturbed. Awesome!
