Updating the Disaster Kit in Baja
Worthy Shelf-Stable Products Available at the Super Mercados
Striving to fulfill one of my NY resolutions, this is the first in a series, unless I get too lazy (flojo) or distracted (abstraída) to continue.
Here is what I have added so far:
Ramen - Ottogi Ramyon : Ottogi is a South Korean version of ConAgra from what I read on the business reports. Anyway, all the ramen flavors I have tried are good. Warning, if there is a picture of a chile pepper on the package, the added seasoning will make the soup spicy HOT! Not that I mind at all and the dogs love the leftover broth.
Tomato Sauce - Val Vita Pure de Tomato “Made in Mexico since 1956”: Sold in 200g (7 oz) soft packs, the tomato flavor is sweet and flavorful with a true tomato taste. The two flavors we have tried, Espanol and Arrabiata are delicious.
Pasta - Italia Espeghetti: 100% pure Semolina in a 1 lb. (453g) package. The pasta cooks to a perfect al dente in five minutes and any leftovers reheat very nicely later.
Pasta - Vesta Caracolito (“Little Shells”), pasta de trigo semolina de trigo duro. Very good, any leftovers hold their “al dente” nicely when reheated.
Milk -Jersey - Leche Entera in the 1 ltr. Soft pack. Best flavor of all the shelf-stable milks that we have tried.
Apple Juice – del Valle is a clear juice with a flavor that I like best. The Jumex is cloudy, with the fiber of the fruit – I want to like it more than I do.
