Gluten Free in Tucson

We will be in Tucson for a week beginning Sunday staying in the West University area. Any recommendations for gluten free dining or shopping?

    1. Sorry to be so late in replying, but a great local place is Tucson Tamale Company. http://www.tucsontamalecompany.com Everything on their menu is gluten-free.

          h. Great recommendation. I picked up some of their frozen tamales and we loved them.

          • Just to keep the thread alive....I saw an ad just last week for Metropolitan Grill (N. Oracle Rd.) advertising a "celiac menu" which should (ideally) be far better than just gluten-free, assuming they're being careful about cross-contamination. We also now have a Picazzo's Pizza (also on N. Oracle, near Metropolitan Grill) but when we tried to go there the other day, they were closed for remodeling. Hope they re-open soon, as they have a really good menu. Tucson Tamale Company appears to be thriving and their tamales can be found in local stores as well as at many of the local farmer's markets.

            1. Feast on Speedway has great food and lots of gluten-free options. New location is at 3719 E Speedway. Website is eatatfeast.com

              1. Many taquerias can serve gluten-free food, although the extent of cross-contamination varies. Tucson, like Sonora, is wheat bread and wheat tortilla territory, but corn tortillas are not uncommon. Taqueria Pico De Gallo on the south side prepares its corn tortillas fresh from a lump of masa dough kept near the grill.

The vegan restaurant Lovin' Spoonfuls has a special gluten-free menu and given that their target market is voluntarily fussy they should be pretty good at accommodating involuntary restrictions as well.
