South Indian in Edmonton?

Are there any restaurants in Edmonton that specialize in southern Indian food?

RESTAURANT CLOSED - had one more LivingSocial coupon left to use, went there past Monday and they were CLOSED! No explaination pasted on the door. Alter in front entrance was gone and lights out! Coincidentially the LiviingSocial coupon "expired" on Oct.15,2011.

I have had good food at Shudh cafe and Masalaz. Shudh does a great buffet and Masalaz does great thalis.

I enjoyed dinner at Masalaz once with somebody who is very familiar with South Indian cuisine and who thought the food was good an authentic. It is a bit hard to find as it is deep inside a small strip mall almost hidden by a gas station. When we went the sign still said "Caribbean"

I'll second the recommendation for Shudh's buffet. Everything is flavourful and delicious, and the servers bring around items hot and fresh from the kitchen to try, or top up your plate while you eat. I could live on their tomato chutney!

Many Edmonton restaurants have so-called south indian food, but its only 'Shudh Cafe' on 34A avenue that is truly South Indian. The dosas are crispy and golden brown. The tomato chutney is hot and tangy. The idlis are soft and fluffy. The service is excellent. The server is polite and very much attentive. He listens to your inputs with an open mind.

bigfred, I just noticed a big sign outside of Rasoi (34th Ave around 92st) that said come in for South Indian food. Maybe worth a shot.
