Bar or lounge near Jackson Square Saturday night

Husband and I have not been out and about lately but are entertaining old friends visiting from LA this weekend. We have made an early dinner reservation (6:00 PM) and hope to go somewhere afterwards quiet enough to just sit, talk and have a drink or two. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. Quiet bar on Saturday to me means either a hotel bar (like the one at the Omni or the Mandarin Oriental) or a bar at a restaurant (like Alfred's).

    1. The bar at Bix might work for you. There's live music but it actually enhances conversation.

      1. Kokkari has a nice bar area and is located right on Jackson Square. However, a weekend evening will be busy. I've lately grown fond of the bar in the lobby of the Hyatt Embarcadero, a quick walk from the Square. The huge atrium lobby and the rising and falling capsule-like elevators create a fun 70s kind of chic. It's never noisy in there and seats are easy to find.

        1. First off, if memory serves, this weekend is the Chinese New Year Parade, so opportunities for an intimate chat might be limited. The best bars in that area are probably Church Key and La Trappe. But under the circumstances, I agree that a hotel bar might be your best bet.
