Where can I get the Tastykake PIES?

orythedog Feb 25, 2010 09:32 AM

I know multiple places to get my cheesesteak fix and most of them have Tastykakes so my jelly krimpet addiction gets filled too. What I am after in LA is the ever elusive Tastykake mini PIE. Short of ordering a box of them direct, where can I find them locally?

Ordering direct is a tad expensive, but in my experience the product seems to super fresh.

Have you talked to these cheesesteak joints and asked them if they'll special order you some pie from their distributor? I suspect they will do it if it's not too much of a PITA.

Oh boy, that's some deal. $14 for 3 pies! Might as well order a case from TastyKake.

I saw the apple pies today at Smartstore in Manhattan Beach. Ninety-nine cents each.

Thanks, I didn't even know this store existed. I saw about 10 varieties of TastyKakes and tried the Butterscotch Krimpet and the apple pie. The pie had a soft crust and crispy apples. Other than that, I didn't detect anything special about it...maybe it's a nostalgia thing?

Also have sandwiches made on Amoroso rolls with Boars Head meats. Didn't partake but will soon.

The sandwiches and salads at The Smartstore are all made to order and are indeed very good. (and you get to order them on a cool electronic kiosk.)

Philly's Best has them, though my only experience with that, that I've had is at the Pasadena location, which is closed now, I believe. There are some other locations around the area

Check with the South Philly Experience food truck. They have a decent Tastykake stash although I'm not sure if it has the pies. Of course if they do you'll have to track them down ...

I have finally found TastyKake pies in Los Angeles!!! Jersey Mike's Subs in Burbank has apple and cherry pies for $1.99 each. This must be a recent addition, as I've never seen them before. I'm hoping they'll add more flavors in the future (lemon, eclair, blueberry, pumpkin) but this is a big deal! I'm assuming the Jersey Mike's in Hollywood has them as well. Philly's Best was rumored to have them, but the location I went to didn't have them...only the regular Kakes.

there's a deli chain out here called "Philly's Best". They have quite a few locations. They sell REAL philly subs and steak sandwiches. And they carry tastykakes. not a big variety, but most of the favorites.
