Chalet Suzanne has great food. They make and can their delicious soups which you can buy at some Publix stores.
I especially like their brunch - late morning through lunchtime. You can sample a little of everything.
Lakeland has some good restaurants at Lakeland Square Mall. It is just off the Polk Parkway, west of town.
The best one is near the movie theatre, but I cam't think of the name right now. Also downtown is the Antiquarian.
Winter Haven has a couple good restaurants downtown - near the park. -
I haven't been there but I've heard great things about Chalet Suzanne - it's located in Lake Wales and it's a historic location. Could be a good time, or at least something to talk about.

broiled grapefruit with a chicken liver for an appetizer...I've been once voluntarily and after, twice under protest. I haven't been since Hurricane Charley did it's number in the area however. It used to be a 50's Florida throwback. I believe it is meant to be amusing and quirky, not upscale.

Nonononononononnooooooo! The memory of my one meal at Chalet Suzanne still haunts me, and not in a good way. It was weird beyond weird, a time warp complete with dusty interiors and waitresses dressed as Tyrolean bell ringers. You want to hear about the food? Trust me, you don't.

Can it be in Tampa or orlando, or it has to be in between? What's in between are Lakeland and Winter Haven, and pickings are kinda slim there...
