Need a place for a birthday dinner upper east or west side

I am having a surprise birthday dinner for an 85 year old relative for somewhere between 15-30 people. Most of the guests are older and a number live on the upper east side ... trying to minimize traveling for them. Also looking for a place that will have a private space we can use. Italian, French or American is good. I'm planning on about $100/person. Haven't been able to find the right place and I'm running out of time. Thanks

  1. Make some calls:

    Cafe Boulud
    Jean-Georges at The Mark

    1. Bistro Chat Noir?

      1. Cafe Boulud and jean Georges I;m afraid are above he price range ...but thanks

        1. Le Refuge, French bistro on 83rd bet. Lex and Park. They have private rooms and the food, although not innovative is very good.

Actually is on 82nd bet Lex and 3rd Aves, www.lerefugenyc.com

          2. Square Meal should be able to design a menu within your parameters.

            1. it's out of your specified location, but a private room at Keens (36th, at 6th Ave) would be a lovely space for that

              1. I have a call in to La Refuge, Square Meal no longer has a private room and doesn't do private parties on Saturdays. Does anyone know Primavera's private room? Basement wine cellar? And how is the food there? Haven't been there for several years. I'm trying to do this long distance, don't live in NY so any help appreciated.

What about Accademia di Vino? There is one on the east side that I have been to numerous times and a new one on the UWS. I think they do have private rooms and it's good Italian food in a nice wine cellar atmosphere.

Just checked the website and they do have private banquet rooms.

                2. Just spoke to Academia di Vino - the manager will get back to me but the person I spoke to said she thought menu without beverages would be about $120...

Wow! Must be some kind of set menu because the prices there are quite reasonable normally.

                  2. cafe d'alsace (sp?) - 2nd @ 88th (or maybe 89th?)

Does anyone know Carravaggio on 74th st? They seem to have a reasonably priced menu for a party, still waiting on the beverage price. Also Centolire?
                      Thanks
