Help with upcoming trip to NYC Memorial Day weekend

Coming soon with 8 and 6 yr old, staying in midtown, Restaurant.com has discount cards($25 off a bill) for $2 available for following restaurants:
Please give opinion....

Delmonico's
Mars 2112(for the kids)
Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too
Old Castle Pub
The Overlook

Mostly want to know if it is decent neighborhood and decent food.

I agree with the other posts here. Miss Mamie's is pretty good but not in the most convenient neighborhood and not the safest if you're not familiar with the area or knowledgeable about your surroundings. The Overlook isn't really appropriate for kids it's more of a get drunk after work kind of place. Mars 2112 will be fun for the kids but it can get pretty pricey for a Mars themed restaurant. I guess you're paying for the waitstaff in costume.

The problem with restaurant.com is all its restrictions and they don't really get you nice restaurants to dine in. I hope you have a great trip though!

What? Miss Mamie's in a very safe neighborhood. It's only a few blocks from Columbia & there are Columbia dorms all around it. It's not like it's in Spanish Harlem.

You're right though that restaurant.com doesn't have many good restaurants. I've had good luck with gift certificates for Ouest, Beacon, and Anthos. I'd recommend Ouest especially. Haven't seen too many others that I'd want to go to other than Hill Country, which has been sold out for a while.

If you're really looking for quality interesting food on your trip, none of them are really very worthwhile.

Miss Mamie's is the only place I've been to, but I'd say it's pretty good soul food and the staff is very nice. There are some things to see on the way-Church of St.John the Divine, Columbia campus, and it's quite safe nowadays.

I agree, it's not the best soul food but it's definitely decent and the neighborhood is really safe. There's really nowhere in Manhattan below 125th St. that I'd consider truly unsafe. There's also the Seinfeld diner (Tom's Restaurant is the name) nearby if you're a Seinfeld fan at all. Popular photo-op place.
