Help: Need Jamaica Plain recommendation for tomorrow.

In or close to J.P. Looking for nice sit down place with table service, wine, any cuisine for tomorrow nite. Moderate pricing. Pubs are not usually my favorite. Was going to go to Zon's, but learned it is closed. (Haven't been around in a while.) Taking a friend to dinner. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  1. Both Vee Vee and Bon Savor will fit the bill - both good and similar in price to Zon's - Vee Vee more vegetarian and fish - Bon Savor more S. American flair - I've had good meals at both recently...

The chef at Vee Vee is great, but the owner is not cool at all. I tried to take my mother in for brunch when she had a leg injury could not walk...and the owner herself told me she refused to make a reservation...she would not even guarantee a chair would be available for my mom to sit while we waited. Needless to say, we did not go. I learned later from the staff that they were not busy at all that day...that was incredibly rude (not accommodating someone with a handicap...what gives?) and I won't give my money to that restaurant purveyor.

very surprised by this and sorry for your experience. I've always found the owners to be nice and accommodating. Agree with previous posts that Ten Tables, Bon Savor and Vee Vee are the best in JP.

      1. I agree with all the suggestions so far.

A small step down in JP would be JP Seafood (for sushi and Korean) and Bella Luna/Milky Way (no longer in Hyde Sq., but at the Brewery Complex--pizzas, pasta, and a smattering of other dishes). Both quite good for their niche, but not quite at the level of Bon Savor, Vee Vee, or Ten Tables. But they both have table service and serviceable wine lists.

        1. Hands down.....10 Tables...if you can get a reservation or sit at there new bar if you can't.

The food at VeeVee is much better than at Centre St Cafe (which I do love for nachos, and brunch of course). I'd head to VeeVee if Ten Tables is booked...

Just a slight difference of opinion, but I would try Bon Savor first before Vee Vee after Ten Tables.

Nothing to do with proximity, but everything to do with the food.
