Penzeys fine French grey sea salt

OK - now that Bill Penzey has decided to go all Oral Roberts on us to keep us from eating this salt, and I have run out, where can I find it? I can only seem to find the coarse version, and yeah, I could grind it myself, but I would rather not. Does anyone know where Penzey's sourced it from or where the average person could find it? In amounts less than say, 40 pounds?

    1. It's called fleur de sal (I think) and these days you can find various brands in the supermarket.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't realize that fleur de sel was the same thing as the french grey sea salt - wasn't clear to me. I'll look fo it at my market. I'll be curious to see if it is commonly carried in the fine grind.

Fleur de sel is NOT the same as grey sea salt. Grey sea salt is coarse and, obviously, grey in color. It can have a "wet" look. Most people prefer it coarse, but finer grinds can be purchased. Fleur de sel (and its Portuguese equivalent flor da sal) is light and flaky and is pure white. It is also much more expensive than grey sea salt. Most specialty food stores carry grey sea salt. If there isn't one near you, Google it. There should be many mail order sources for it. Here are two:

                  That's why I said "I think". :)
