Birthday Meal In Jacksonville
My sister is going to take me to lunch for my birthday next Wednesday, and I'm not sure where I want to go. I live in Jax Beach, and I've lived in the beaches area of Jacksonville since August of '08 and I haven't really found anywhere I'm too crazy about.
I'm maybe considering the French Pantry (I've seen it mentioned on here once or twice), but I don't know how pricey it is.
Where would you go?
While the French Pantry is excellent & always worth the drive & wait, here are a few ideas closer to home:
Eleven South - Jax Beach, upscale
JJ's Liberty Bistro - PVB, outdoor seating, good food (delicious mini bison burgers)
Urban Flats - next to JJ's, more casual but still nice
Nineteen at TPC Clubhouse - outdoor seating over looking the golf course
216 11th Avenue South, Jacksonville, Beach, FL 32250
330 A1A N, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082
The Pantry is nice but really difficult to get in to. The line is a hassle and the interior windowless.
I like Pastiche in Avondale for lunch. Prices are very reasonble for the quality, service and setting. Make a reservation and tell them it's special event. Sit in the garden. Check out their menu at mypastiche.com. Either place is a long way from the beach but Pastiche is worth the drive.
If you want atmosphere, no. If you want good food, yes. It is really outstanding, and they have pastries and baked goods to go as well. I cannot emphasize how important it is that you get there by 11 AM, though.
It is really advantageous to get on the front end of the rush. If you haven't been before, get there early and reconnoiter the area - it is not obvious that this place serves food, other than the wonderful smell in the area.
