Soul food/country cookin' in Orlando
We will be in Orlando this weekend for a concert. We love Southern style food. We need a very casual place, not fancy as we will be dressed for a rock concert - jeans and t-shirts. I've read a couple posts on Mamma Nem's but it looks kind of fancy from the pictures. Not sure if we would be properly attired.

The best soul food (IMHO) is to be found at Johnson's Diner (59 West Church Street). Its reasonably priced, casual, and right in downtown Orlando. I highly recommend the smothered pork chops, fried catfish, fried chicken, ox tails, and turkey wings. As for sides, you can't go wrong with the mustard/turnip greens, corn casserole, or black-eyed peas. Check out this link for the menu items & which day of the week they are available:

I'll second Johnson's ,, The only bad thing about Johnsons is they close early and i think they are closed on weekends. The best time to go to johnsons is between 11:00 and 11:30am. Any later and you will be in a long line. You can try after lunch but they run out of the good specials quick! There are a few other spots around for home cookin,,Juniors diner on corrine is also good.

Actually, they are open on the weekends. Their hours are M-W (7-4), Th (7-7), F & Sa (7-8), & Su (12-4). After a little bit of searching, I found their "official" website. Here it is:
