  1. Sandy, hope you get some good replies. I did not get any responses when I asked a few months ago.
Received reccomendations for Thai and Vietnamese but not Chinese.

    1. Are you looking for Americanized Chinese or authentic Chinese?

China Room and Fresh China are both excellent. They are not "traditional" but have great food and use fresh, mostly organic ingredients. I've been going to China Room since I was a kid and they opened Fresh China I think a few years ago. The chef and owner Peter (I think, it's been awhile) is open to making special dishes too that's off the menu.

Ting Hau Restaurant in downtown Santa Rosa on 4th, good fish dishes; fresh crunchy vegetables.

            Looking for authentic.......any suggestions?

          2. I leave Sonoma County and go to San Francisco's Richmond District or Chinatown to eat authentic Chinese.

The restaurants in Sonoma County cater to locals & tourists and our Chinese population doesn't seem to be as large as SE Asian, Himalayan, Japanese or Korean. So, the Chinese cuisine in restaurants seems to be diluted to "what the locals will eat". We do have a fabulous Chinese-owned supermarket - G & G that has been reforming local tastes for decades. :)

For authentic cuisine we do much better with those mentioned above and Latin American. Even Eritrean. It's a demographics thing.

China Room and Fresh China are good enough.

Gary Chu's on 5th Street used to be popular, but my last couple of meals there were lackluster.

My Chinese-Californian friend swears by Royal China, but I haven't been there for years.

Good luck finding Chinese. Maybe you'd like to try something else while you're visiting.

            1. A while back (2 yrs?) we happened upon Hang Ah in Santa Rosa and had dim sum -- as I recall, it was credible but nothing fabulous. We were pretty amazed tho.
