Looking for a mid-week winter dinner. Any thoughts on Solstice at Stowe Mountain Lodge or Santos Cocina Latina? How would these stand up to Michael's on the Hill or Hen of the Wood?

I had the tasting menu at Solstice over the summer and it was incredible. Everything was so beautifully and obviously fresh, the steak was incredible-probably one of the best steaks Ive had, and each course was just perfect- aside from dessert which was really only ok. It was an incredible meal though.

I've yet to eat at Solstice, but every time I've seen the menu, it looks amazing. I think it's a beautiful space, though not nearly as 'cozy' as Hen of the Wood - obviously, it's in the middle of the ski resort. :-) But I think it definitely fits the fine dining bill.

I've heard nothing but good things about Santos, but haven't been there yet either...sorry, I'm not much help!

From what I understand, they're not fine dining like Michael's or Hen of the Wood. Cocina has had mixed reviews but I've not heard anything about it lately, and I haven't had a chance to go there myself. If you're looking for fine dining and ambiance, you want Michael's or Hen of the Wood. I'm particularly fond of Hen of the Wood, myself, but both are outstanding. :)
