Jonesing for some Coconut Cake

I have had a major hankering lately for a nice big slice of coconut cake but don't know where to find an exemplary specimen (or any specimen for that matter). The last place I had a decent piece was at Dish in Red Bank over a year back. Subsequent visits back to Dish have revealed that the item is no longer available. I also have had a very good slice at At The Table in Asbury Park however I wasn't a fan of the pineapple jam used between layers. I'm looking for moist cake along with a fluffy white frosting and mounds of coconut shavings. I've come close to ordering this version (http://www.peninsulagrill.com/coconut...) online however spending almost $200 for a cake seems to be a little extreme even for me. Any advice would be appreciated.

at bella palermo pastry shop in elizabeth/kenilworth, they sell moist, frosted, cocconut-covered lamb cakes for easter (third photo down on left except imagine it covered in cocconut):

If you're in NE Bergen county and don't mind taking a 10 minute trip over the NY border there is a place called Lanie Lou's Cafe in Blauvelt, NY. They have a fantastic coconut cake, among other things. It's across from Bailey's Smokehouse, right off of Route 303.

I will have to second the Flaky Tart's Cocnut Cake. Rih buttery cake..great frosting that is not overly sweet and tons of tender coconut...dont wait go today!

Thanks all for the excellent suggestions. I will definitely take a drive to Flaky Tart and try out their rendition. Despite all the accolades, I have never visited them before.

Not something we often see in NJ, which is too bad because we both love it. It's pretty widely available in Baltimore.

I, too, was longing for a good coconut cake. I saw a coconut cake by Paula Deene being offered on QVC. It was terrible.

Needless to say, I am still looking.

Quimbombo and newfie - Thank you for the suggestions. While I enjoy a good cupcake on occassion, I'm not sure they will satisfy my craving for a big hunk of cake. Both sites look great however and I will add them to my try list. Thanks again.

bgut1, I know your pain, nothing like a good moist piece of coconut cake. This is not coconut cake but its the absolutely the best coconut cream pie and one of the best desserts I have ever had.

Its at The Ritz Seafood Grill in Voorhees (the seafood is excellent also). Its so good that the link to the restaurant includes lunch, dinner, directions etc and a separate link for the coconut cream pie.
Not close by but if your in that neighborhood :)

Thanks tom246. That dessert is already on my list having seen it on The Best Thing I Ever Ate on the Food Network. The search for coconut cake continues.

The Flaky Tart sells it by the slice- a huge slice- and it's delicious. Also, Dearborn Farms sells mini coconut cakes (as well as large ones) that are great when they are fresh.

I saw one at Sal's Pastry Shoppe in .. not sure if it's Jackson or Freehold.. you go down Jackson-Mills Rd until you come upon some shops.. it's on the left.

The banana cream pie looked really good, too.
