Fon Fon vs Ruths Chris- steak
We are going out later this week to celebrate my daughter's excellent ACT score - I have never been to Ruths Chris but they like Fon Fon's steak/frites- which is better-I have always heard that Ruths Chris was VERY expensive.....

The quality of the prime steaks at Ruth Chris is quite high, my issue is how they serve the steaks on 500 degree F plates, which tends to overcook them regardless of how you order them. Maybe ordering rare would be ok, then perhaps it would only cook to medium rare, rather than shoe leather.

"More variety is steak is not everyone's cup of meat." Ruth's Chris has a fairly extensive entre menu including shrimp, lamb, chicken, lobster, tuna, catch of the day, etc. Everything I have eaten at the Birmingham or Boston locations has been good, I just do not like the hot plate schtick. With that said, it's more of a business-y place where everyone can find something they like. I would rarely, if ever, recommend, a chain over a great local option (I really like Fon Fon). Note that Fon Fon does not take reservations and seating for parties greater than 4 is very limited.

re: hlsess
We got there @ 6:15 and were seated immediately -ordered tuna tartare which i thought was OK- then our Ukraine waitress talked my daughter into the Coq au Vin (which she enjoyed) and her boyfriend and I ordered the steak/frites -steak was great but i thought the frites were overcooked-the had the chocolat pot de creme too- they had iced tea -I had an orange thingy and a beer- all for $115 b/f tax- in and out in an hour.
