Thai food in Columbus, OH

punkysquirrel Feb 22, 2010 06:37 AM

I'm looking for some good Thai restaurants in Columbus, OH. My husband and I would like some authentic Thai food, but still need to have some Americanized dishes for my mother who freaks out at the idea of Thai food and afraid of trying something new and different. :) We prefer something that isn't too pricey if possible. This day and age, cheap no longer means a plate for less than $10 it seems. But for good Thai, I'm willing to spend a little more.

One of our favorites is "Nida's Thai on High" it's in the Short North district-they close for lunch at 2pm and re-open around 5 pm.
Other options are "Chi Thai" on the north side, "Thai Orchid" in the Dublin area-try the newer location -NOT the one on Sawmill rd & there is more of a Chinese Asian restaurant called "Hunan Lion" that is very good with Thai dishes on the menu on Bethel Rd.

Go to little Thai town on Refugee Rd. west of Eastland Shopping mall. There are two restaurants close by (south side of road) and a grocer next to one.

The resto next to the Thai grocery is Bangkok, and it's very good....I drive from Dayton to eat there. That said, not sure they have any "Americanized" Thai dishes.

We've always liked Bangkok. My Thai cousin-in-law seems to think it's worthwhile. It's one of the more affordable, less fancy yuppy ones.

Yes, a Thai friend of mine told me about it, probably 10-12 years ago, and it's my standard for good Thai in Ohio. No where in Dayton comes close, unfortunately...

Not really. I've tried it 3 or 4 times and never been impressed. Same with almost all the Thai places in Dayton. Bahn Mai Thai on 725 was the best of the bunch, but the last time I was there, not only was there no larb gai on the menu, the little blond waitress said she'd never even heard of larb...

I recently went to Bahn Thai Bistro at Reed and Henderson for lunch and thought it was pretty good and cheap. I got a spicy eggplant dish that was excellent, and it was about $7. The have a standard Thai menu, though; nothing American. There are plenty of mild noodle dishes that I would think your mom would like. I think they also had some "Chinese" dishes that would seem familiar to most Americans.

For what it's worth, I have not been impressed with Thai Orchid, and I've tried it three different times.
