Teaneck/Englewood update

La Chocolate is closed (the restaurant behind Mabat)

I hear that Cafe Adam is attempting to reopen

I hear rumblings of a possible dairy restaurant opening in Englewood in the next few weeks.

    1. Thought Cafe Adam IS open, but is under hasgacha of R. Isaiah Hertzberg.

Frozen Yogurt place w/ hashgacha in Englewood...owner lives next door to my BIL

What about the sign on that storefront near 3G Bookstore on Cedar lane that talks about Baked goods coming from Rockland Bakery?

Cafe Adam closed shortly after they had to switch hashgachas. I think someone new is trying to get that space going again.

I didnt hear anything about a yogurt shop in Englewood but I did hear something about a dairy restaurant. ( I think the owner is doing a demo for the sisterhood next week)

I wll look for more details about this later in the week.

Is it possible that after not having anything for so long that now Englewood wil have 2! Thats a move in the right direction for that neighborhood.

          • The S&S Deli in Englewood is no longer kosher at any level. They remain kosher style, but are under no supervision and have meat and dairy in the same kitchen, etc.

The non-kosher deli/grocery Zeytinia of Englewood is closing over the next few days. Supposedly a kosher establishment is taking its place. Any insight on what it may be?

              1. Ariel's on Engle St. right near the corner of Palisade and Engle is under construction. Not clear when it's opening: http://www.arielskosher.com/

KosherChef- weren't you looking to make tamales? Any connection with this restaurant or just coincidence?

I will try and find out over the weekend and report back about its opening.

I talked to some people in the know on shabbos and they said Ariels should be opening some time after peach.

still waiting to hear any news about ariel's opening. nobody on teaneckshuls knew anything...just asked me for follow up if i got any info!

                                              1. re: DebbyT

To answer my own question...just heard from the chef/owner of Ariel's of Englewood. He is bli eyin harah opening beginning of May.
Considering the dearth of Kosher restaurants in Englewood, I hope all my fellow Chowhounders will support this new venture (and no, I don't know the owner...just looking forward to Kosher Mexican food)!

                                    • Any idea on what happened to Mabat...loks like it has been closed for weeks now.

                                        1. re: vallevin

Didn't notice...thought of going a few weeks ago, but ended up with dairy instead. Shame.

Drove by Mabat last night and it was open, just FYI.

                                              • Ariel's, at 18 Engle St, is opening the week of July 26th. The town really dragged it's heels on this one. Anyway, I know the chef from Makor Cafe and the food is great with very reasonable prices. Check out arielskosher.com
