I just got back from a trip to Hawaii where I ate a lot of Ono (a fish - I think that is the Hawaiian term, might also be known as Wahoo). The fish was fantastic, and I was wondering if there were any restaurants here in Los Angeles that served Ono?

I had it at Joe's in Venice for lunch (sometime last year), and Echigo had it on their sushi menu last time I was there (more recently) if you'd like to try it raw.

Maybe not the form you are looking for, but Houston's often uses ono for their wonderful fish sandwiches.

Ono is a deep water fish. The flesh is firm because of this. it is very mild and almost tastes like chicked (in taste in texture)

It tastes good, but a little too flavorless in my opinion.

Many of the seafood restaurants the specialize in fresh fish will have it. its not that uncommon. Scotts by South Coast Plaza, Mc Corkmik & Shmiks, even Tony's Sea Landing in Tustin, Rusty Pelican in Newport.

I would just call ahead to see if they have it.

Sorry. I thought you said OC. Reread and you said LA.

Mc Cormiks and Schmicks is the only one I would be familair with but there are a ton more. I just don't know LA that well.

I know there are a lot of good restaurants in Santa Monica that specialize in fresh fish.

The Reel Inn in Malibu almost always has ono. Ocean Ave. seafood in Santa Monica often has it as well but call ahead to make sure. If you want to get some to cook yourself Santa Monica Seafood usually has it as well. Water Grill downtown (relative of Ocean Ave) also has it regularly. As posted already, Duke's in Malibu and McCormack & Schmicks in Beverly Hills are good bets. You could also try the Enterprise Fish Co. off Main in Santa Monica but I am not sure of the food/fish quality as I haven't been in years.
