Plate lunch near OGG airport???
Last time I went to Maui was 10 long years ago!!! We are finally going back this summer, and are looking forward to some good eats. Last time we went, we stopped off on the way to the airport at a great little place for plate lunch. Does anyone know what the name of it is? If not, can you recommend a good/cheap place for plate lunches? We will be staying in Kapalua for a few days and then Wailea for the rest of the week.

You thinking of Tasty Crust? It's pretty close. There's also a place really close, it looked like an old Der Weinerschnitzel? I can't remember the name of the place...but always got the chili on rice to go for the airplane ride. Also I heard Da Kitchen Cafe (branch of Da Kitchen) opened close to the airport. Excellent plate lunch, the teri chicken is great.

Agree with Tasty Crust as a nearby plate lunch place (breakfast too), as fine a local diner or dive as you will find. The following is a website, although it says unofficial:

BA-LE in Kahului is maybe 15 minutes from OGG; vietnamese sandwich's and plate lunch. They have amazing egg rolls too. I was just there last week I had the bbq chicken plate lunch and my wife had one of the sandwiches.
Awesome vietnamese spin on the mac salad too.

Thanks! I am pretty sure it was Da Kitchen Cafe. I remember it was pretty close to the airport and was a walk in/eat in or take out kinda place.

Da Kitchen must be an acquired taste. I've been and I agree about the local charm factor, but the food isn't very remarkable ...other than for its high caloric value. If this is what Hawaiians eat routinely it explains the overweight problem there nicely.

There is a place called L&L Drive In (chain) in the same shopping center -- yummy plate lunch -- Korean bbq ribs and fab chicken.

Sounds crazy, but Stinger Ray's in the airport is pretty good for that area. If it were on the ocean instead of in a terminal it would get a little attention.
