Sweet Pickled Cuke Recipe?

Does anyone have a good recipe for traditional cuke pickles? I've found a lot of info on refrigerator pickles on Chowhound, but not for the kind you can jar and leave in a cupboard for a year. I have some pickling cukes ready for harvest in my garden, but I don't know how to brine them, whether I should pickle them whole or halved, etc. Any help appreciated!

  1. When you say sweet pickles, do you mean bread & butter pickles? These are almost always sliced before pickling. Here are a couple of recipes for you. There are many, many out there.

      Hi there. No, I want to cut my cukes into quarters lengthwise, and having looked around, I think I want something less sweet than bread and butter pickles. From making other pickles, I know I usually like a 2:1 vinegar:sugar ratio, whereas B&Bs seem to have a LOT more sugar.

      I have looked online but was a bit overwhelmed! I was hoping for something someone here has made for yonks and could recommend and talk me through if necessary...
