Empanada de Leche @ El Salvador in SF’s Mission

A steaming hot bowl of atole de elote and an empanada de leche for breakfast set me back $6 at El Salvador Restaurant in the Mission. Not so taken with the atole that seemed like little more than thinned out creamed corn. Better luck with the empanada de leche. Blancmange-like milky pudding encased in plantain pastry then deep-fried, this was less sweet than other versions. Rather than using slabs of plantain, the wrapper was made with cooked and mashed plantains to be less gooey as well.
