Please anyone who can help me with my attempt to make a venom birthday cake for my son. I'm not an expert by any means but I make my own birthday cakes. I want my children to remember home made cakes as part of their birthday. I've make two pirate cakes, two spiderman cakes, a caterpillar, several dinosaurs and a great Dora cake.
Now the hard part, venom ?!!? I honestly use the website to search for ideas and thus far have been lucky with picture and how to. I have found a cake on Flikr that is amazing but don't know where to start it is a venom head with an open mouth. Anyone have any tips as to how to proceed? Thanks!!!h

If you are trying to make a 3-D head, I would start with two layered cakes -- one on a cardboard round at the bottom, with layers to reach the appropriate height, and another on a cardboard round that will be from the top of the mouth to the top of the head. Stack them together, make sure the cakes are set so they don't slide, and start carving. The cardboard on the bottom of the second layer will help hold the weight of the cake above. I would just be careful how deep the mouth is cut. Once the shape is carved, crumb coat the whole thing before proceeding with the rest of the decorating.
