NEED HELP! restaurant for air force event
Hi everyone,
I am hosting an event called dining out for the air force ROTC. It is held every year and is a sit down dinner with cocktails before hand. Last year it was held at tavern on the green but as it is sadly now closed, a new venue is needed. Does anyone know a restaurant that can provide a private party for about 130 people for $60 or under per person?
PLEASE HELP!
thank you :)

You might want to try a private club rather than a restaurant. The Yale Club is just one example of a club that accommodates events like this, and they can probably work within your budget.

re: rrems
I think you at least need a Yale alumnus/alumna for a reference, but I could be wrong. I've been to a wedding there and it's a lovely place. Classy but not stuffy. I honestly don't know if $60/person would be enough though. I know Tavern on the Green did it but then again Tavern on the Green was an event factory.

Try The National Arts Club on Gramercy Park S. I'm not sure if they're big enough though. Also, St. Bart's (Bartholomew) Church restaurant. I think it's a good size for you and with a set dinner they may well be able to make your price. 51st St. & Park Avenue. It's called Inside Park: http://www.stbarts.org/page.asp?ID=188

re: Jane A.
Also, the University Club on 54th would be a great fit for your event. Formal, elegant slightly old-fashioned rooms of different sizes, and they do this kind of every single night. Feels like an old style officers' club (at least the ones of my imagination!)
Also, Guastavino's. Perfect location, very good food, and plenty of room for your Dining Out.

I am not sure why people seem to be giving you a difficult time here, but, I think I can help out a bit.
I'd check out Brasserie 8 1/2, Marseille, Indochine, Tribeca Grill, Beacon, Bobby Van's, Inside Park at St. Bart's (quite lovely) and maybe Keen's.I hopse this gets you started or at least helps a bit.
Cheers!

Not sure why air force is relevant to your question.
Does that $60 include tax, tip, and booze?

re: gutsofsteel
I thought it was relevant so people know what kind of event it is, so they give me venues that would be appropriate for such an event and not like a birthday party or something, i just thought it was helpful. The $60 per person would include everything yes, but an open bar is not necessary as the air force has a 2 drink maximum at such events. Last year at tavern on the green we had a cocktail hour and sit down dinner ( with pre-set menu) for around this price per person. I would like to find a similar type of thing.

re: gutsofsteel
the "kind of event" would be a classy venue not like a club or loud crazy place, more of a private conservative feel. that's what "that kind of event" is. tavern on the green did it for around that price so its not impossible so hopefully i find a place, if you have any other suggestion, like you have been to an event somewhere, or know of any restaurants or venues that could hold that many people and do private parties, that would be what i am looking for.

re: gutsofsteel
Let this Air Force brat enlighten readers. A Dining Out is a formal military dinner, usually accompanied by speeches. It is designed to build unit cohesion and esprit du corps. These dinners are usually held at officers' clubs on Air Force bases, but a rather formal restaurant with a large enough private room would work.
