Mr. Steer

Friends from out of town (Laval) suggested we eat at Mr. Steer this evening. What should I expect?

The main thing at Mr. Steer is to make sure you don't ask for your burger "well done." It's one of the few burger places in town that give you a choice, so take advantage of it.

The burgers are quite thick, so if you go for well done it will be pretty dry. (I go for "medium.")

They're good burgers, but not my favorite(not in my top 5 places in Montreal, to be honest). I have friends who swear by them, though.

I was pleasantly surprised. It is true that the "salad" is second-rate, but the burger is tasty, and at least 4 oz cooked - an adequate amount of meat for me. Suzi-Q French fries could be prepared from frozen, but this is just speculation.

I would be shocked if their Suzi-Q fries would be prepared from frozen. I like their Suzi-Q fries very much.

IMO their burgers would be much better if they were not prepared beforehand. What they do is partially cook them and then basically warm them up on the grill after they have been ordered. I love the Susie Q's.

Fully agree on both of your points.

I never said they were frozen(it was board member 'naturelle' who speculated they use frozen fries). As I said, I would be 'shocked' if they use frozen fries.

I'd consider Steer to be slightly above average for a city with below average burger options...

An above average Hamburger Joint in business for over 50 years they have served the same Iceburg Salad Entree (with 50's french dressing) Hamburgers and Suzi-Q french fries.Still my Son's favorite place.
