How t find obscure liquor/spirits in the D.C. metro area (specifically Latvian Black Balsam)

I posted a similar general question on the CH Spirits board about imported spirits, but I'm curious what everyone's experience has been in procuring obscure imported liquor/liqueurs/spirits in the D.C. area.

I'm currently a NoVa resident, but will soon be living in D.C., and my girlfriend is in Maryland.

Specifically, I'm looking for Riga Black Birch (Balsam/Balzams), the unofficial thick herbal liquor of Latvia. It's not in the VA ABC's February specialty orders catalog. Are Maryland stores capable of ordering odd items like this? Is the price going to be monstrous?

I can't help you with the answer to your question, but similarly, I'm on the hunt for bacon vodka, in a place that is accessible by Metro.

Ask Joe at Ace Beverage if he can find it.

Seconded. If Joe can't get it, nobody can...

Is it imported to the US? MD stores can't direct-import, so if it doesn't already have a regional importer and distributor, the stores will be out of luck

20 years ago, a co-worker gave me some home made birch liquor. It was terrible, like drinking dirty turpentine. I kept it around to dare friends to drink it.
