Balthazar or Pastis for steak frites...?

I like balthazar because I can hit up the bakery before dinner to take some stuff home. Plus it's a classic. BUT, for my money, I think I'd hit up Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote in midtown east if I wanted steak frites. They're a French mini-chain that only has steak frites on the menu. For $24, you'll get salad, fries and a steak that's doused in a butter, mustard, herb suace. Doesn't sound like much food for the money, right? Just as you're about to complain, a waitresses dressed in a French-maid looking uniform drops another equally sized portion of steak and fries in front of you. Blamo. Delicious.

Relais de Venise is just not very good. What do you expect for that money and quantity?

DBGB serves a good steak frites.

West Branch serves a very good version - the frites are excellent.

Got a DBGB reservation. Burgers also look great. Will report back.

Haven't had the steak/frites at DBGB, but imo, the sausages are THE thing to get there.
