Aroma Espresso Bar opening in Forest Hill Village

I just noticed a sign at the old David's location at the southeast corner of Spadina and Lonsdale. They're sure to give Second Cup and Starbucks a run for their money, and it'll be nice to have a cafe in the Village that serves real food.

I don't know when they opened up but they're open. And, not surprisingly, packed already. I had a late lunch there last week. Easily the most stylish location of the 3 I've been to - spacious banquettes and cool high swivel stools around the high-tops in the middle of the room. Same Aroma menu. Had their half halumi sandwich and chopped salad with tahini dressing combo. Simple, fresh, good. They'll do very well with this location.

Aroma is opening up at The Shop at Don Mills next week, the Village location should be later in the summer.

what's good at Aroma's? they have pastries, sandwiches and salads, right?

Yup - really good sandwiches (even though I'd be happier with less bread) - I like the halumi and chicken ones best. Salads with grilled chicken is good. Their bourekas treat is really yummy. I've never really been tempted by or tried their pastries. Coffee drinks are served with a little square of chocolate.

Confirmed...Aroma is opening at the old Blockbuster location on Spadina...the parking lot will be converted into a Patio. Opening in July.

At Bathurst and Eglinton? Isn't the one in the Village still open?

I heard the other day that the rumors are true. I think the blockbuster location is already closed. The landlord may have an interest in seeing an Aroma at that location. If yes, great news. Also, I heard that the Village Restaurant is finished for the second time. I won't miss it too much.

I don't know the legitimacy of the rumor...just heard it over the weekend. The blockbuster is now closed and emptied. Ill post updates as I hear/see them

Having an Aroma in the village will make things complicated. Now I'll have to decide between What a Bagel and Aroma.

The Village Restaurant has been shuttered for a few weeks now. Wish it would return to its rightful existence as an old-time diner. Nothing fancy, just good home cookin', comfort food style.

All I ever had there was but bacon and eggs, toast with butter, and fries from the freezer. Their club was okay too. What was so good about their home cooking? I'll miss it only for nostalgic reasons.

Sorry, I worded it wrong. I'd like it to become a joint that offers good home cooking, diner style. (The hot chicken sandwich and club sandwich at the original incarnation were pretty decent, though.)

No, I think it is now finished for good, after an attempt by the owner of Edo to keep it open.

Really??!! I was in the Village a couple times this week. Are you talking about the Southside location?

We LOVE Aroma. This is fantastic news. I'm thrilled to see them doing so well in TO.

That's the place! I hadn't even realized they'd closed up. Just one caveat, though: The Aroma sign was on TOP of the Southside location, not on the windows. I'm assuming they wouldn't post a sign about a new location opening soon in a different location from the sign...

One word - BRILLIANT.

(A few more words...it will be a goldmine). Aroma is a fantastic lunch place and I've noticed that they've expanded their breakfast items since first opening. Has anyone tried their french toast?

It would be brilliant if true, sadly it's just where Aroma put up its billboard. At least we have one location uptown at Yonge/Eg.

Yeah, I walked by Southside last week and it looked like they were still open. Oh well, doesn't matter anyway, Bloor/Albany is closer to our house anyway :-)
