bakery recommendation in irvine?

i'm looking for a place to get a stellar birthday cake--somewhere in irvine or orange county.

any recommendations for a great bakery or pastery shop that specializes in cakes?

I like the cakes at 85 Degrees in the Diamond Jamboree Plaza. It was quite a busy place last time I was there.

JJ bakery on jeffey and walnut (5 freeway exit jeffrey), i think now they call it j sweet bakery... it's right next to the korean tofu place... a few recommedation, the tiramisu is good, the double chocolate thing (dunno exact name, but it's covered in some kind of cocoa powder) is also good, the passion fruit cake is also good. those are the ones i normally get for every occasion.

And their cakes are gorgeous! Definitely different than your usual American-style cake decor!

Do they make custom cakes? I do enjoy their light chocolate cake with whipped cream!

I like Assal Pastry in the same plaza as Sumo on Culver and I also like J.J. Bakery next to 99 Ranch, also on Culver.

French's bakery (several locations in OC, try the one on Culver at Walnut in Irvine, next door to Trader Joe's) is very good.

Let Them Eat Cake on Newport Ave in CM has some really great baked goods.

I have not yet tried their cakes, however. (They recently won $10,000 in a cake decorating contest on Food TV--to air next November.)

I don't know about their cakes, but I had a nice caramel nut tart from Blackmarket Bakery (near the airport). They sell a few items at the Irvine Farmer's Market.

I recently discovered the bakery in HK market on Redhill in tustin (near the 5 freeway). They make some really beautiful, and equally delish cakes. Everytime I take one to someones home, they ask me where I got it and they too start buying them.
