Looking for Great, Authentic Cajun Food 2 hour drive from New Orleans

Hi, I'm currently in New Orleans on a trip with a buddy and we're looking to get out of NOLA and go for a drive somewhere that is an authentic Cajun experience. We're willing to drive about 2 hours and looking for extremely high quality, backwoods and cool atmosphere. A place with a crawfish boil or similar would be of interest. BTW, just had a great meal at a John Besh's August. The degustation with wine pairing was quite good. I appreciate your help and insight.

    1. You can get to Lafeyette in a little over two hours on I-10. Cafe de Amis in Breaux Bridge may be a good choice. I personally like Prejeans in Carencro but some do not share my enthusiasm B & C Cajun seafood in Vacherie between Laura and Oak Alley plantations has good cajun fried seafood. If you leave New Orleans via U.S. 90 to Lafeyette you can encounter a number of small towns with cajun food. A good book with excellent chow suggestions is the Cajun Country Guide by Posner. There have been a lot of posts in the past about the area but I think under the new format they will come under a different section than the New Orleans section.

        1. Cafe de Amis in Breaux Bridge and Prejeans in Carencro are both good choices and would meet your requirements of an authentic Cajun experience and cool atmosphere.
Middendorf's specialty is thin fried catfish. There is hardly any catfish to be found in this dish. Expect lots of fried stuff and hardly any fish.

            1. I too was going to suggest Cafe Des Amis. Go for the Zydeco breakfast on Saturday mornings.
