Shamrock Shake 2010

Did they change it?

I realize that sometimes shakes are dependant on location and timing. Jack in the Box is notorious, IMO, for that. A eggnog shake at one location will have not eggnog flavor, another too much and a third just right.

My shamrock shake had WAY too much creme de menthe flavor to the point of almost being bitter. Then it was way sweeter than before. Bad location or has the SS been ruined?

Has anyone else who was a fan of this shake notice a difference this year?

A shot of Irish whiskey fixed it ... but still.

  1. That is an awesome fix rworange! My friend John and I love to "fix" rita's water ice in the warmer seasons with some rum. I'll have to research the SS in my area and report back.

    1. It probably does depend on timing. I did a quick google, and found this blog posted yesterday where the writer found the mint flavor lacking.

I've never had one myself so I wouldn't have anything to compare to.

        Mucho thanks for that link.

Yep. It is just not the same this year.

IMO, McDonald's needs to do some Shamrock shake training. In my area, it has been agressive mint flavoring. However, I live in a mainly Hispanic area where St. Patrick's Day isn't a big deal. The local McD's just have no skill with this.

I went for a second shake .. at 10 am ... Hi, I'm rworange and I am additcted to the SS.

It wasn't as repugnant as the first shake, but it wasn't right. I really think it is sweeter this year.

And whisky tastes better at 10am anyways.

Thus the Irish coffee ... or is that only at the Buena Vista in SF?

            The second shake was unenhanced

            1. re: rworange

Unenhanced? So all of the Sham and none of the Rock!

      2. I have always loved your posts RW.... but now I really owe you... The Shamrock Shake was usually's P.'s deal, but this post made me want to try it for myself as I am a HUGE whiskey fan... Well... tonight after a super spicy thai dinner, it was the NIGHT!

        P. initially scoffed... I hope you are not ruining perfectly good Irish whiskey by doing that...

he took a sip and said... "ohmygod..."

It's also really good is you cut it with half chocolate shake. Just sayin'.

I went into my local McD's in the last waning moments of St. Paddy's day. There was hardly enough for one small Shamrock shake. I asked if they would mix with chocolate. (I love chocolate mint, but that's another post) They said they couldn't!

          2. they didn't even have them here this year

            1. Here's a song by the Hamburglars that pretty much sums up this topic. It's called "Shamrock Shake"
