Will we see more regional organic milk producers?

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/busi...

Dairy products are the one food group that I (pretty much) only buy organic. I didn't realize that there was such a glut of OG milk on the market, endangering the livelihoods of OG dairy farmers. But I admire this enterprising group, which got me thinking about whether food "regionalism", if not localism, may play a role in dairy sales in the future.

    1. I live in Connecticut and a group of dairy farmers here did something similar. While they didn't have the money or time left to become certified organic, a small group of 6 dairy farms that pledge to use no rBST created their own brand of milk. They were able to get it into local supermarkets and it took off. I gladly buy their milk exclusively to support our local farmers. These are just small family farms. I drive by one of them often and it is the way it should be...cows munching on grass out in the pasture. Luckily their business seems to be doing well as they expanded to add half and half to their lineup with ice cream coming soon.

        1. This is definitely happening more places. Here in Maine: http://www.moomilkco.com/

            1. Sounds similar to Clover-Stornetta in Northern California, which has been around in more or less its current form since the 1970's. They process and distribute organic and conventional milk, dairy products, and eggs produced by farmers in Marin and Sonoma.
