Sonic
Was rushing up Rt 1 today and had to skip a sit-down lunch. Decided to see what the fuss about Sonic was - so 'West Coast' and seemingly post-interplanetary exploration hip.
I ordered the chicken club with 'tots and a 'legendary limeade' Ran me $8.27
I hope a seagull or a crow found it and enjoyed it more than I did. It was nearly inedible.
Did I not order the right thing? Any fast food that is chow-worthy?
Whats fast & good when you are on the road in the Boston area?

It amazes me that people are surprised by the quality of the food from a place that offers an item that consists of chil and frito wrapped in a tortilla. Its called lowered expectations. With that in mind, when I went to one in Maryland, I did not order a sandwich (my DC did and was disappointed). Instead, I ordered the tots with chili and cheese, and found them enjoyable. My daughter got the popcorn chicken, and I thought they were fine. The drinks, everyone got a lime rickey of some sort, were good.

I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, tots for my 2 yr. old and a drink. The burger was horrid and due to some burger slop that fell on the car floor, my car reeked for days. Fries were horrid. My son seemed to enjoy the tots but he's 2....The drink, cherry limeade, was good. But not good enough for me to ever go back. YUCK! Give me 5 Guys any day.

I ate at Sonic a few times for research purposes and have found it utterly unremarkable fast food, undeserving of the crowds. I gave it a 2009 Stuff Magazine Dining Award for "Dark Side of the Herd Mentality". The drinks are pretty okay, but the food is the same nasty, nausea-inducing crap you get at any national chain. If I had to eat fast near there, I might choose that Greek HoJo's kind of place, Brothers Kouzina.
If you want more "road" recommendations, it might help to specify which roads you frequent.

re: MC Slim JB
Route 1 N & S, 95 Same. I do think someone should make a drive thru sushi place with handrolls etc ready for driving. What ever happened to the "O'Naturals" chain that was being developed by Gary Hirschberg of Stonyfield Yogurt fame? Seemed like such a good idea. I am more inclined to 'call ahead' to a good place and run in for a take-out sandwich. I love Stone Soup for just that - great Cuban and turkey wraps....just so depressing having to deal with fast food. I guess the axiom "good- fast - cheap" (pick any two) hold true. McSlim I am an avid reader of yours in the Pheeenix. Thanks for all you eat on our behalf. I hope you have a gym membership and use it often.

Thanks for the kind words, ipso! As it happens, I'd be eating like that even without the Phoenix/Stuff gigs, but it does get me to a few places I might have let others "take for the team", like Zaps, which actually turned out to be better than expected.

We've been to Lendy's Deli a few times and liked it. It's definately in the call ahead category, though, not really "fast food." Right off of Route 1S, Lynn Fells Parway exit. It's in the strip mall across from the Target (I think there's a Panera next door).

I've only tried Sonic once, when my son fell asleep in the car and I was hungry for lunch... son woke up anyway when we were waiting for the burgers. I didn't really care for it anD my 3-year-old ate only a few bites. He is spoiled with the pasture-raised CSA beef that we eat at home!
