Take-out Roast Duck and Roast Pork

Where is the best place to get inexpensive take-out roast duck and roast pork in Chinatown. I usually get them from Big Wong on Mott b/w Canal and Bayard. Thanks.

I just posted on another thread that I had excellent roast duck at Big Wong last night. I've been trying roast duck at places other than Big Wong for a while now, and based on last night's experience I think Big Wong is tops. I have had good roast pork from NY Noodletown and Sun Sai Gai. I haven't tried the roast pork at Big Wong.

Ditto Noodletown. Deluxe Food Market is also good in a pinch.

          JM and MM,

In addition, some information on Grand Street..The prices have risen slightly, but still the most inexpensive I know of.in NYC. Be selective of your choices....and pick the specific ones you want, not the one they choose to give you. I got some red roast pork last time that was a little dry.

I shop at the Delux Food Market, 122 Mott Street. This is a large Asian supplier with every
imaginable product including a Butcher, Fish Monger and all kind of takeout precooked food.
Duck and Pork is very good.

I find their prepared stuff, such as duck, way too salty, nowhere near as good as Noodletown.

I LOVE Deluxe Food Market's frozen dumplings--so much so that I never remember to try other highly recommended frozen dumplings--but the one time I got their packaged roast pork it wasn't great. I've had reasonable luck at Kam Man but I would like to try a more specialty place.

Do any of these places like Big Wong also make char siu bao? Usually when I've bought char siu to go it's either to just munch on or to stuff into puff pastry...have not gotten around to learning to make the fluffy white dough myself.

You can also try Great NY Noodletown, if you haven't already. I'm guessing you probably have; am I right?

Yes, Noodletown would be my choice. They do a very brisk takeout business and after many visits for both takeout and dining in, I have not noticed a difference in quality between the two. I don't love the roast suckling pig the way a lot of people seem to though.
