Italian Sandwiches like Di Rienzos from Ottawa in NYC

petuniafromhell Feb 17, 2010 07:26 AM

Where can i find italian sandwiches, I use to go to this little deli in Ottawa called Di Rienzos and they made the best italian sandwiches, my favorite was 1. TURKEY & HOT CAPICOLLO Herbed Havarti cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayo with spicy eggplant. Any suggestions of where to find a sanwich like this in NYC?

It's not in Manhattan, but I'm obsessed with this sandwich shop in Brooklyn called "Lioni's." Here's the link: http://www.lioniheroes.com/hero_menu_pg3.html

My favorite Italian(ish) sandwiches are at Defontes (21st and 3rd), Lamazou (tiny cheese and sandwich shop on 27th and 3rd) and Todaro Bros. (30th and 2nd).

My favorite Defonte sammich is the roast beef, fresh mozzarella and sauteed eggplant au jus!!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I'm all about the #34 - roast pork with the hot salad. Unless they have the roast pork with broccoli rabe special
