Escolar Quest
Does anyone know where I can buy Escolar (also could be called escara, white tuna, super white tuna, butter fish)? The sushi place that I go to sells it for $2.50 a bite, which is ridiculously overpriced. I rather cut a fresh fillet up and eat it at home.

re: Dommy
I get it from the fish monger as well...very fresh and usually at a good price! I know you said you wanted it for sushi, and it is delicious this way...but I have found that Le Petit Greek on Larchmont usually has it grilled with olive oil, and their simple preparation is outstanding!

just don't eat too much in one sitting as it may cause gastrointestinal issues due to the wax esthers in the flesh.

re: Chauve Souris
Folks, we're going to ask that discussion of escolar's side effects move over to our Not About Food board, where food science discussion is allowed.
On this board, please keep things focused on where to find this fish (either as a raw ingredient or prepared dish) in the L.A. region. Thanks
