Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Where to buy frozen mochi in NYC?

I just moved back to the US from Hong Kong a few months ago and am still in search of some of my favorite pantry staples. One that I have not yet been able to find is just blocks of frozen mochi (not the sweet, dessert mochi, just plain mochi to use in soups, grill, etc.) I am willing to go anywhere in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens to get it! I have tried a few Asian groceries in Chinatown but haven't found this particular item anywhere yet.

Thanks!

    1. Hong Kong Supermarket in Flushing, near there is also very good Cantonese food at Imperial Palace that might make the transition a little easier.

I've seen plain mochi at Sunrise Mart as well but I haven't shopped there in a while.

        1. you can find the chinese equivalents to mochi in supermarkets in chinatown as wella s the supermarket in koreatown

            1. Try the Korean grocery stores on 32nd street between 5th avenue and Broadway.

                1. Try Katagiri and/or the Sunrise Marts. (For some reason the links didn't come through. You can google them for phone numbers, but Katagiri is on E. 59th between 2nd and 3rd Aves., one of the Sunrise Marts is in Soho, the other in the (near) East Village.)

I could swear I have seen frozen mochi at Whole Foods...in the ice cream section
