The Joseph Ambler Inn
This weekend I got to experience the Joseph Ambler Inn (stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast) Prior to going, I looked on Chowhound for info and didn't see any, so I wanted to share with all of you my experience (which was great!)
The food was delicious (the best sea bass I have had in many, many years) and the property beautiful. I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to ever go there when I live so close! (It's in Montgomeryville, I live in Ambler!)
Anyway, I wrote up a review if you are interested in reading more about it. It was a great experience and they are running some nice specials right now (like $100 for a room including a nice full breakfast)
I hope this helps!
My sister had her baby shower there and everything was great. They were really nice as we setup the room and helpful throughout the entire event. The food was very good and the staff very friendly and courteous. We plan on going back for dinner sometime and might even use it again for an event.
Glad you posted. They do run great specials - offer BYO certain nights, mid week fixed price menu, great room rates - so I have been eager to try it. Also heard they have a gorgeous outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. I've always been hesitant to try it because, like you said, lack of reviews and also I was afraid it would be very old fashioned. I think I'll have to try it now.
We actually had our wedding and reception there too! When we went for our "tasting", we sampled 5 or 6 different entrees, maybe the same number of hot/cold appetizers, and a few salads. Everything was really good, and we had a hard time deciding on our menu. All of our guests said the apps and dinner were great, and from what we remember (!) they were quite tasty. We also stayed there, as did most of our guests, and found the accomodations to be wonderful. They were a little pricey, even with the wedding-related discount, but this was a weekend in July - not a dreary wintertime special. Breakfast in the morning was great too. We'd definitely go back, even though we live in SJ.
