James Brennan in the UT

The business section of todays UT (Feb. 15) has a large Q&A article on James Brennan. It seems like nothing is his fault, but his success at Stingaree is due to him. He glossed over the Top of the Cove fiasco. He seems to be into the publicity not the food. Me thinks Searsucker is going to bomb, but interesting read.

QUESTION: Before you started developing night spots, did you spend much time going to clubs?

ANSWER: I’ve gone to many different clubs all around the world: in Barcelona; Ibiza, which is off the coast of Spain; Florence; Greece; St. Barts; and all over the country, New York, Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles. Stingaree could hold its own in any city, anywhere.

I am glad he let us know where Ibiza is. Otherwise I would have never known. You would think with all that club experience, he would put out a half-way decent product. I guess he said he has "gone" to clubs in those places. Maybe he never got in?

My favorite part is referring to himself in third person: "and there are still plenty of people out there who believe in James Brennan and me being partnered with Brian."

As I said months ago in a lengthy Brennan/Malarkey?Searsucker thread that was deleted, Brennan will eat Brian M. alive. Classic case of hardscrabble businessman overwhelming the Chef at every turn. May never get off the ground. And "Searsucker" is still just a terrible, terrible name.
