Time to change the focus and give credit to those small and interesting wineries in the area.
My list to start would include:
Dover Canyon
Villacana
Villa Creek
Anglim
Edward Sellers

Many more, especially in the Downtown Cluster.

      I'd add:

      Jada
      L'Aventure
Jacob Toft (might be able to connect with him at L'Aventure to score some of his own label)
      Tablas Creek
      JC Cellars

        Nice parallel post here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/679905

Any size requirements on your description of "small and interesting"?

Plan on taking the back road (Paso/Cambria) by Justin. Any other suggested winery stops along that route?

Along the Justin (Paso Robles) route to Cambria, you will find Halter Ranch,
Opolo, Denner (very good) and Dover Canyon. All are excellent IMHO.

Thanks, Bruce, I'm very familiar with Opolo. :-) Will check out the others too.

          Chronic Cellars!
Anglim and Tablas Creek are two of our absolute favorites.
