Least Bad option in Newark Liberty

  • 9

I'm going to have a layover between flights and DO NOT want to leave the airport or even the secure area for that matter. Specifically, I'll be in terminal C. I'm sure nothing is good. What's the least offensive choice?

  1. As someone who frequents EWR, Gallagher''s Steak House, is your best bet, and actually really good.

It's no terminal 5 at JFK, but...

I'll be there tomorrow for lunch...

Or for a lighter bite, there is always the ham and cheese croissant at Au Bon Pain.

    2. Nothing is good, correct. Best bet is to waive the meal and get a nice Macchiato (doppio) and one of their new Ham & Cheese Paninis at Starbucks. (actually their new Panini are half-decent).

I disagree, I've had steaks at Gallaghers that are better than many/most restaurants in jersey.

If we throw out that it (like everything in an airport) is overpriced, this place is good. I'd say my steak was just as good as flemings or manhattan steakhouse.

      2. I have a flying phobia, so I can't help you, but I just love your Topic title. Good luck!

        1. Heh, good luck.

I grew up in North Jersey, and I fly back there maybe once every year or 18 months these days to visit friends and family. I don't think I've ever eaten anything at EWR. Can't even find a good beer. I think I paid $9 for a pint of Guinness last time I was out there, since I had to wait a couple hours before I met my father at pickup. The only palatable option, but absolutely outrageous since on the way home I can grab a local craft brew for $4.50 from Laurelwood's location in PDX...

Talk about culture shock, after leaving Portland International...

Maybe the best bet for food might be stashing a sandwich from home in your luggage? Or at least a snack, that's what I do. A can of roasted hazelnuts from PDX will more than tide me over while waiting for a ride at EWR, or while waiting for the NJTransit train to my mother's place. At least until I can get over to Queen Pizza or Hobby's Deli in Newark, or down to Santelli's in Elizabeth, where I turn into a slob who gorges like he hasn't seen food in weeks. Ah, Jersey pizza...

          ;-P

Do you mean Santillo's in Elizabeth for pizza.

              Yes, apologies.

Sometimes my brain and my fingers go in different directions when I type.

              :)

          2. So, as mentioned I was in terminal C today, and I saw a wine bar. I figured I'd give it a try.

Pretty awesome for some decent wine and some real good food. I had a proscuitto and brie sandwich and some truffled penne. You can order small plates or full portions. Both were very good.

Perhaps I just have a thing for airport resto's hahaha or just good luck, who knows, but I'd recommend this place. It was by terminal 80ish. Called Vino Volto? maybe?

In any case, I'd recommend it. It was good good, not just 'airport' good.
