Best Mexican in Richmond, VA?

This might have been posted before but what is everyone's take on Mexican down here? I am a loyal Mexico Restaurant (arboretum) fan, and have been one for over 10 years! They have great food and it does not try to be something it's not-just tastes good! I like their Pollo Fiesta or California Burrito, amazing cheese dip and Flan too! I also like Cafe Ole and have heard about this place La Milapa (sp)? Has anyone been there?

  1. Don Jose's used to be my favorite, but the original owner sold out, and opened Don Pepe's, a couple miles down the road (Hull St). So it's Don Pepe's for me now. Hot Tamale is good, too.

I like Don Pepe's also. I also like Chicken Fiesta on Midlothian Tpke and Ciento Lindo on Forest Hill Avenue.

I have been to La Milpa and love their tamales. There is a place on Midlothian east of Chippenham in the old Steak and Ale, I believe the name is Amigos and rumor has it they have great authentic Mexican, but I have not tried it.

Don Pepe's is hit or miss. I love their enchiladas but their tamales are awful. Hot Tamale Cafe's food is very bland to me--even my spice-avoiding husband reaches for the hot sauce there. Amigos is great. Taco lenguas--tongue tacos, if you like that sort of thing--to die for and very reasonable prices, plus you can play pool. Southside's where it's at for good Mexican in Richmond between Amigos, La Milpa and Chicken Fiesta.

I can't wait to try Amigos - sounds great!!!
