OK Bakery & Dimsum.

  • 3

Although I live in the neighborhood I stopped in only for the first time today and was wowed by flavorful chicken dumplings in thin, tender dough. The vegetarian spring rolls were plump and juicy inside their surprisingly delicate wrappers. In addition to dumplings they sell all kinds of freshly baked Chinatown-style buns and cake slices. The waitress recommended the red bean balls coated in sesame seeds, saying they had just fried them half an hour earlier. Sure enough, it was the first red bean dessert I've ever enjoyed. And the prices are very low! What a treat to find on South Street. They're a little too easy to walk by without noticing, though. I just hope they make it.

Thanks for the tip bainbridger! I, too, live in the neighborhood and never would have thought of stopping. I went this (Sunday) morning, thanks to your post, and although their dim sum offerings are limited, they were very good and all that I needed. I had the Shanghai buns ( very nice pork dumplings), steamed barbecued pork buns, and shrimp dumplings. Delicious! Nice to have in the neighborhood.
