Seafood in Newport, Rhode Island? [moved from Boston board]

  • 4

Hi. I'm thinking of doing a quick overnight in Newport. I'm hankering for fried clams. Any suggestions about seafood restaurants that won't break the bank? Thanks in advance.

  1. Try the Mooring the menu reflects 90% Seafood. But it is a little pricy Seafood is expensive anyway espically this time of the year.

    1. The best fried seafood in the immediate area is in Middletown - Anthony's Seafood - they have a fish market and a counter service restaurant.

I second the recommendation for Anthony's---good year-round and for just about any type of seafood. As for fried clams in-season, Flo's Clam Shack near first beach in Middletown (right over the NPT line).

      2. For fried clams try Flo's Clam Shack across from Easton's or First Beach. While technically Middletown, it's on the border with Newport. Very casual atmosphere. At one time it was cash only. Most importantly, great fried clams.
