Market Street can be seedy. Depends if you are driving or BARTing and what time you are getting out (day or night). I would recommend heading towards Van Ness and eating near the Davies Symphony Hall. Your options there could be:
Zuni Cafe
Jardiniere
Absinthe
I would recommend calling to see if they can seat you before you go as they will prefer to provide dinner. However, if you are going after the dinner service, it shouldn't be a problem.

If you're staying at a hotel, head back to something near your hotel for dessert. There is darn little near the Orpheum that is comfortable late at night.

Even during the day, I would want to be in a large group of people in that area. There's a reason why the Orpheum has security guards standing on the streets when the crowds get out (and it's not because of the rowdy theatre goers demanding an encore performance).
