Amalfi Coast Dining - Help Please!

  • 1

My heading is spinning from Amalfi Coast restaurant research. Heading there in May with 5 other couples - a group of 12 that is determined to eat and drink its way into bliss.

We are staying in a villa in amalfi and expect to venture out a bit. Please comment on some of our initial dining thoughts.

Montepertuso - probably Il Ritrovo for dinner
Cetara - probably lunch - should we go to Acquapazza or Al Convento?
Big night out - Don Alfonso? Da Gemma? Da Vincenzo?
Others - looking a A Paranza, Hosteria Il Pino, La Brace, Barilotto di Nonno
Any experience with la Capaninna (Pogerola) or Capo D'Orso (Maiori)?

I guess I just want to hear opinions of where I shouldn't miss during a week in Amalfi. Thanks!

  1. Oh my goodness ... that sounds like a trip to heaven with your friends!!! Let me comment on your selections --
Montepertuso - probably Il Ritrovo for dinner (VERY GOOD)
Cetara - probably lunch - should we go to Acquapazza or Al Convento? (LOOK FOR REVIEWS ON HERE FROM ERICA ... I THINK SHE HAS GONE HERE & THESE ARE ON MY LIST AFTER HER REVIEWS ... ERICA ALWAYS HAS GREAT SUGGESTIONS!!)
Big night out - Don Alfonso? Da Gemma? Da Vincenzo? (I have heard Don Alfonso is a great splurge, but I have not gone ... we travel w/ younger ones who can't do "white table cloth" late into the evening ... if Da Vincenzo is in Montepertuso, it was not open last summer)
Others - looking a A Paranza, Hosteria Il Pino, La Brace, Barilotto di Nonno (Barilotto di Nonno sounds like a real find ... I plan to do that next time ... and La Brace is great!)
Any experience with la Capaninna (Pogerola) or Capo D'Orso (Maiori)? (Haven't been to either of these, but if you are staying in Amalfi, you might want to check some of the advice from Ravello ... we ate at Vittorio's Pizza, which was the best pizza we have ever had, and next door was a ristorante by the same name & family that we plan to try one evening next trip ... and in the warm months, Ravello has live music outdoors in the park that is super for walking around before or after dinner!!)
If you want an adventuresome night out, you might also try La Tagliata ... up on the road between Montepertuso and Nocelle ... we stayed in Positano and they sent a car to pick us up for dinner and return us to our hotel. It is a fixed price, family style place ... 35euros each with many courses, wines, and live music on Tuesday nights I think. The view from there is TO DIE FOR and a good value for a very large variety and quantity of food. BE STARVING WHEN YOU GO THERE!! You may be thinking of skipping that spot since you are staying in Amalfi, but you could venture to Positano, do a little shopping and sightseeing, and ask La Tagliata to send the car (tip them a euro or two per family) to pick you up for dinner at a commonly known spot at an appointed time. Then, you can take the bus home from Positano. If you don't feel like arranging dinner at La Tagliata, you have to venture up on the bus that loops around Positano and at least have lunch in Nocelle ... just down the road from Montepertuso ... they have the same glorious view at a restaurant there called Ristorante Sante Croce (I believe) where we had lunch that was sooooo soooooo good, and with that view, I wanted to stay!!! Have a glorious time!!
